Boosting BPO: Bangladesh Outlines Industry Advancement Initiatives
The Bangladesh Association of Contact Center and Outsourcing (BACCO), in collaboration with the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), organized a specialized workshop aimed at identifying challenges and charting sustainable growth for the country's Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector. Held at the BTRC auditorium on Wednesday, the event saw participation from representatives of over 70 organizations involved in the BPO industry.
According to a press release issued Thursday night, the workshop addressed key topics, including the simplification of call center and BPO registration processes, modernization of licensing conditions, ensuring uninterrupted internet connectivity, categorizing the IT sector as an essential service, and revising call center guidelines.
Key Discussions and Insights
Participants highlighted operational hurdles such as high partnership transfer fees and rigid regulations, which discourage new entrepreneurs from entering the BPO sector. They urged BTRC to take effective measures to alleviate these barriers.
BTRC Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Iqbal Ahmed, the workshop's chief guest, reassured attendees, stating, "Collective effort is essential for the growth of the BPO industry. We are committed to addressing existing challenges in the telecommunications sector and providing full support to overcome them."
Collaborative Path Forward
The attendees reached a consensus that with BTRC's collaboration, operational obstacles can be mitigated, transforming the BPO sector into a key driver of the nation's economic growth.
BACCO's Vision
Tanvir Ibrahim, President of BACCO's Executive Committee, emphasized the importance of policy formulation, global branding, and participation in international exhibitions to expand the BPO industry locally and globally. He also advocated for membership in organizations like the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP) and enhancing awareness within the local market to strengthen the sector.
Other notable attendees included BACCO Vice President Md. Tanzirul Basar, Treasurer Md. Aminul Haque, and directors Zayed Uddin Ahmed, Mehedi Hasan Zulfikar, and Saima Shawkat. Senior officials from BTRC and the BACCO Secretariat also contributed to the discussions.
